 Blogging and other things
« Thread Started on Aug 22, 2009, 4:58pm »

Hi folks,

I have now set up an online blog at the following link:

http://craiggilbert.blogspot.com

I think this will be a good way of doing my online blog, which will be linked from my forthcoming new website (currently under production) - this way people can comment or link to my blog as well, and it archives old blogs etc. Gives me much more of a presence!

I'm also now twittering...odd site indeed, but we'll see how it goes: http://twitter.com/kermit0702

My new website will be released to co-incide with my Lemon book release (still in formatting but nearly there...another week or two at the most!) There will be random poetry on it, weekly articles, and constant updates!! At least, that's the plan...:)

I like the sound of your online blog Craig (I do enjoy reading some blogs on the net). Just read your first entries via link - really joyful and interesting :) Looking forward to reading more and hopefully contributing. A great way to extend your presence :)

Thanks very much for looking and reading Johny, much appreciated...have you ever thought of doing an online blog?

Incidentally, Crowman, thank you very much for adding my blog to yours and also for the interesting information on the CD and Tolkien-inspired music...I will check out all links and probably buy that CD...I'm currently going through re-watching Lord of the Rings so am in a kind of Tolkien mood anyway :)

I intend to update my blog weekly (no mean feat, this, almost missed the first deadline) but am determined to increase the 'web presence' - it is encouraging to see some followers already :)

Thank you all!

Yeah, I finally worked a few things out. lol After much gnashing of teeth, sackcloth and ashes. I might use this blog to post a few oddities. I have an essay in mind to with Tolkien as the subject. A kind of Gnostic look at his works. So I might post that as a blog. Still can't figure out though why a blog works or if it does. I mean, how does anyone know it's there at all? Don't know what is happening with the CD I'm doing with Alex. Just mastering it now. It will probably be released on a German label through Alex's connections out there. We shall see.

What a good question! I'd love to see you blogging Johny, I can imagine it would be highly entertaining if your posts on this forum are anything to go by :D.

Crowman - Already enjoying your blog, thanks for linking to my blog too.

The thing I like about blogs versus individual website 'news/blog pages' is that the format is generally clean and easy to read. Blog sites automatically put your latest blog entry to the fore, and archives your older entries, which is simpler than if your were updating your own website. Once someone is following your blog, they will see your updates as soon as they happen, where as if you make updates on your website people have to consciously think to visit your site to see what you are up to. People can find your blog via one of your followers' blogs and there is a chance they will like what they see and start following your work. A news page tucked away within your website doesn't have this potential for gathering new followers :)

Interesting and pleasantly unexpected question you posed Craig and Cazoo about my doing an online blog :) I've never thought of such a thing, but sounds kind of appealing (time permitting to keep it reasonably updated). (Oh, very interesting comments you make Cazoo about the internet presence afforded by a blog, elegantly expressed as always) Could contain anything from trivially amusing moments, such as my falling down some steps outside a pub on Saturday night (this did actually happen Sat just gone, I have a slight limp at the moment), and next minute finding myself sprawled across the pavement, to moments of relative profundity, and reflecting on these thoughts. I guess I didn't consider it cos I thought it would be too trivial but hell looking at some of the blogs I've seen they practically discuss what the blogger had for their meal that day. Which is fine if it can be made amusing or lead into avenues of philosophical reflection :) All is grist to life's mill of joy and reflection in the simplest of acts.

Like the sound of your CD Crowman - I'd be up for buying this too when it's out. Will catch your blog too :)

You have hit the nail on the head, your first blog entry will write itself by the sounds of it. I look forward to being entertained by your account of this unfortunate descent ;D.

We are all waiting with bated breath for your blog to be born, Johny.

What are you still doing sitting here reading? Off you go now...(please)

Updated my blog again, but I'm sure you all knew that as I'm sure it's bookmarked and you look at it weekly :P

No? Do it immediately.

Thanks Craig, just read your latest blog - very interesting all the recent crow sightings! I am also struck that your writing style in your blog flows really nicely. Not that it hasn't done before, but I really do notice albeit almost intangibly, an increasing confidence and maturity :)
