 The Matrix Trilogy
« Thread Started on Sept 30, 2009, 10:46pm »

Hi all,

I'm about to revisit the Matrix trilogy on DVD - yes, I own them all, and love them all.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this interesting sci-fi? Anyone love it as well or hate it? Comments please, it will be quite fitting for me to review the films once I've seen them again...

Yeah, Craig, a great set of films. When I first saw the sequels I wasn't so sure. I thought in a way, the first film was kind of complete. But I have seen them all right through a couple of times now and I see more each time. People who know me well enough will not be surprised when I say that I believe this world is very much like a Matrix reality, an interactive holograph. Quite Buddhist really. Still, on their own, they are superb.

I quite agree, Crowman! I see different things each time as well - I think the Matrix trilogy has lots of imagery of numerous religions such as Christianity as well as Buddhism.

The second film for me was really difficult for me to follow, especially the section at the end - but the more I watch the more intrigued and delighted I am.

I also love the imagery to that of computer code and operating systems; I suppose you would have had to work in IT to appreciate this!

And I laugh at my rubbish observation skills, but Neo re-arranged equals 'one'!! Which kind of gives away that 'he is the one' doesn't it lol.

I certainly enjoyed the first one Craig, but although I also enjoyed the sequals, I didn't find them as interesting as the first one, which I agree with Crowman about, was kind of complete in itself. (I also liked the actress in the first one ha!) This is a slightly contentious point, but Cronenberg's Existenz, which I really like as well, has been described (in The excellent Rough Guide To Film) as the scrappier, arthouse cousin of the self important blockbuster The Matrix. Perhaps a comparison that's not that viable, though they do both deal with alternative reality (though in Existenz it's a game in the mind that blurs with external reality, whereas The Matrix as Crowman suggests is the holograph 'behind' things) Just thought I'd throw that one in anyway, but The Matrix - great film! And I loved Hugo Weaving's villainous Agent Smith, superb deadpan delivery and acting!

I have a confession to make...*I have only seen the first in the series*.....But I loved it soo much that, when my sister bought her two cats(brother cats), I named them Neo and Morpheus~~ and she liked the names and kept them! Except her gray cat is Morpheus, and her Black cat is Neo...lol...

I have seen parts of the other two movies...

The first Matrix was perfect as is, didn't think they really needed to expand on it, but if a movie does well at the Box office, they always seem to make sequels.
