The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a series of books by JR Ward about a group of vampire warriors and their fight against the Lessening Society - a group of vampire slayers for want of a better description.
I have just read Dark Lover the first in the series which is mainly about Wrath the blind leader of the Black Dagger Brother hood, it was a fantastic read and I could hardly put it down, my lunch hours and coffee breaks just weren't long enough.
I started reading the second of the series Lover Eternal yesterday evening and I am already half way through it! Again I just can't seem to put it down, this one has Rhage as the central figure.
Here is a link to JR Ward's web site www.jrward.com
I was put on to these books and have indeed been loaned the whole series by Fiona and Catriona from my Curves class, I in turn have got them reading the Kelley Armstong 'Women of Otherworld' series.

Is this in a similar vein (no pun intended) as the Lauell K Hamilton stories or more Anne Rice? I'm still trying to find a series of vampire stories that make the vampires a little less effeminate. If that makes sense?

Hmmm large, tattooed and with fangs? I can certainly see why you like these books lol
Might give them a look if they steer away from the "poncey" vampires lol

Thanks for the recommendation Siouxsie and the link. I've been looking for new vampire fiction to read, having sated myself so to speak on Anne Rice (did you know she wrote some erotic fiction too, the Waking of Sleeping Beauty etc? Pretty good stories!) - this looks different and a great avenue to explore I have to say Kabaal I don't mind the Lestat type vampire 'hero', kind of Byronic and romantically compelling. But yes good to move away from stereotypes once in a while. Must also read Let The Right One In by John Lindqvist (link to awesome film in Film section). I'll give Black Dagger Brotherhood a go
