I didn't get a chance to get into it yesterday Craig, but I started it this morning, and I'm loving it!!!! I love how you brought together the group of apprentices traveling with the mage... Corg is my fav. so far... I'm guessing their little gang is going to have its share of adventures in this story... it sould be fun!!! I really like the storyline between Lorkayn and Vergail too, I can't wait to see how that plays out... You have such an amazing imagination, and you describe everything so beautifully, you take me right along with you... I'm quite impressed sir!!!!!

Thank you for your praise Mags, glad you're enjoying the book...means a lot to know someone reading it actually likes it lol..it really has had mixed reviews, and as a debut novel, even I'm not particularly pleased with it - although bits of it I do like...be interesting to know what you think of the whole lot once you get through it.

Omg Craig I'm so sorry, I started out with a bang, read prolly 2/3rds of it in a day.... and was loving it... but then I had to put it down, I got busy for a few days... and then I quit reading all together.. right now I can barely bring myself to read a long poem...lol but I'll get back to it, I go through stages like this... I'm in my movie/ reality t.v. stage right now... then I'll get sick of that and start reading again... but I've loved what I've read so far... I think I already told you this, but I was a little worried at the start because it was so "fantasy-ish" lol, and that's not my thing, but as soon as you got into the character development I was hooked and loving it !!!! I'm so sorry to take so long though, and I promise you it's no reflection on the book!!!!!!

Hello Craig
Firstly thank you for signing my copy and thank you to Siouxsievamp for getting it for me for Xmas. Never had a book signed before so its very special
Started reading last night and I am currently at point where Lorkayn is just outside Malana. So far I am very impressed, fantasy is not normally my thing as I am more into Sci-fi but I'm hooked. Lovely descriptions and interesting characters. Worryingly I'm thinking that Lorkayn is so far my favorite!!
I especially like the way you have created a fantasy world but avoided the usual Tolkien type creatures (Elves, Orcs etc) I'm intrigued by the Norfel and the Bu'kep races. I don't want to say any more in case I spoil bits for those who have not read it yet.
Cant wait to see what happens next. Thank you again and all the best for the New Year.

Hi there,
No problem on the signed copy.
Thank you so much for posting this positive thread about my book - I'm thrilled you are enjoying it and I look forward to hearing your views when you've finished reading it. It means a lot to me when people read my book, and even more when they like it!
Thanks again...

Finished it!!!!
Well without giving anything away (hence some of what I type may be vauge) it did not turn out how I expected at all! Very surprised but very nice ending. Are there going to be more stories concerning the character who walked from the standing stones to their new destiny?
You asked if there were parts we did and did not like? Well one of my favorite sections was definitely the Planes of Nowhere I loved the descriptions of that area, really conjured up some wonderful images.
The only bit that didn't quite sit with me was the small sections in the entrance to the catacombs, just after Lorkayn attacks. Its hard to describe though, kinda like I wanted to slap Keldoran and say "Stop messing about with digging holes and get a move on, theres a battle and you are needed!!" Hope that makes sense?
Other than that, and to be honest it didn't detract from the story at all, I enjoyed every minute. Well done!!

Thank you for these brilliant comments on my book!
So glad you enjoyed it.
As to the character at the end of the book, have a look at 'The Dark Shores' threads in this forum - that's the sequel to 'A Wizard's Tears' and it features Vergail as the main character! I'd better get a move on and start writing more of it, seeing as I'm getting new fans
Thrilled you enjoyed the book.

Like the other reviewers and as you know mate I was captivated by your novel too. So fresh and with exciting characters and situations, and has a really good flow and dynamic to it. Soon after I bought it, I showed it to Pete Wilkinson who popped round, and he was blown away by the fact that you'd written this - in fact at the start of the afternoon when I cracked open a couple of cans and was wittering on about an album or something, Pete was on the end of the sofa with his head buried in the first chapter A bit tardy of me but I'll lend it to him. An entrancing read.

No worries mate. Pete was a bit stunned too, that you'd written a fantasy novel - I think I'll have to go the next step now and lend it him

Hope you don't mind me resurrecting this thread, I just had to say that I love this book. I'm not hugely into fantasy novels usually (with the exception of Piers Anthony maybe). A friend loaned it to me when I was very ill, in amongst a huge pile of other books, and it was one of the very few that took me completely out of myself. I found the imagery very rich, and the story absorbing. 'Tis my humble opinion, any road.

I read A Wizard's Tears last weekend...read it cover to cover on Saturday, just couldn't put it down...I was captivated from the first page. It is an impressively well woven story, with original and interesting characters. This book left me feeling rather spiritual, profoundly touched and even a bit lost for words, which is most unusual.
I put aside a Paulo Coehlo novel to read A Wizard's Tears, and I have to say I found your novel much more absorbing and readable (sorry Mr Coelho!). I am of the opinion that if you decided to introduce deeper layers of spirituality into future books, along with your clearly improved writing (your poetry is going from strength to strength, by the way), then you could easily produce a bestseller.
I didn't want the book to end...hurry up with the next novel please, Craig! I will be head of the queue to order my copy.

I am truly humbled by these comments Caz and Tiggy, thank you so so very much. And I was disappointed with the way A Wizard's Tears turned out!
The Dark Shores, the sequel, is gaining ground each week, and will be a much more layered character driven novel, although I have to say my usual quick pace seems to be in it, and there's plenty of action and surprises in store...in fact, even for me, because I'm not sure how I'm going to finish it yet...kind of writing it in an 'organic' fashion
Thank you again, you people inspire me to redouble my efforts and write more, more, more!

I second what Cazoo said. (Cazoo, you have a lovely way with words yourself if I may say!)
Craig, you were asking earlier in the thread if there were any parts people didn't like, and I want to be fair & offer any constructive criticism, but it's really difficult! (I'm very surprised that you yourself were disappointed with the book, by the way.) If I were reeeally splitting hairs I suppose I would say that maybe a couple of parts could have done with a little bit of trimming around the edges, but that really is it for me.
This book has a lot of sentimental value for me. In fact I tried to quietly poach it from the mate who loaned it to me, but she wasn't having that for a second & I ended up buying my own copy, lol.
